WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson has revealed the meticulous preparation undertaken for his new club’s FA Cup second qualifying round tie at Winchester City today (3pm).

Wilkinson and assistant Mike Percival travel to the Citizens for their Terras debut knowing victory could net the club a tie in the third qualifying round plus £3,375 in prize money.

The former Bracknell, Wealdstone and Hungerford boss is ignoring Winchester’s status in the division below Weymouth and called for his players to “get to work” in order to progress.

More tellingly, though, he told of the work he had already done on Winchester prior to his confirmation as Terras manager.

“I’ve just spent the last 24 hours doing all my prep work on them,” he told Echosport at his unveiling as boss.

“I’m a manager who works very hard on opposition. I have to give my players every bit of detail.

“I will know every strength, every weakness of the opposition. That’s why me and Mike have always achieved.

“This game is going to be such a tough game. I know their manager (Craig Davis), I know their setup, I know what they’ve been doing.

“They want to beat the giants coming there. They’ll be saying they’re the underdogs. I’ve heard all this before.

“Listen, it’s 11 against 11. Men against men. Whoever wants it most wins the game, simple as that. Let’s go to work and let’s get a win under our belt.”

Ahkeem Rose (ankle) is back in training and could feature, while Millwall loanee goalkeeper Ryan Sandford is expected to play even if the fixture cup-ties him for the Lions.

The third qualifying round draw will be published on Tuesday (1pm).
