WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson admits striker Ben Thomson is an injury worry for Saturday’s game with Cheshunt – just 15 minutes into his second Terras spell.

Thomson, an 75th-minute substitute for match-winner Ahkeem Rose, was on the receiving end of a hefty tackle from Amadou Kassarate during the 2-1 win at Welling on Saturday.

The striker limped away from the challenge nursing his ankle but signalled his intention to carry on, minutes into a second debut after signing from Salisbury.

Thomson, who now has 256 Weymouth appearances under his belt, completed the match and Wilkinson described the fans’ favourite as a “warrior” for his efforts.

However, Wilkinson later confessed that Thomson is doubtful for Saturday's pivotal bottom-of-the-table clash with Cheshunt (3pm).

He told Echosport: “They got the free-kick and they went in on him.

“That’s worrying, I’d be very surprised if he’s going to be OK for next week.

“He’s a warrior, that’s why I brought him in, I love working with him already. We’ll assess that one.”

When put to Wilkinson that Thomson was seen gingerly exiting the challenge, he replied: “Yeah, he was struggling, but did you see the way he carried on?

“He’s carried on when we were going to make a change, but he was like: ‘No, I want to stay on, gaffer’. That’s what they’re all about.

“Scott Rees was cramping up with 20 minutes to go, couldn’t run, but he’s showed his experience.

“People forget Tom Bearwish hasn’t played for two weeks but went straight in there.

“Luke (Nippard) has been out for six weeks and only played one-and-a-half games. It’s incredible what those boys have done.”
