DORCHESTER Town have not given up on the play-off race and are determined not to let their season “fizzle out”, according to assistant boss James Wood.

Wood and manager Glenn Howes are overseeing the Magpies’ best season for a decade, Dorchester currently sat ninth in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South table.

They welcome ex-Weymouth boss Mark Molesley’s Gosport Borough to the Avenue Stadium tomorrow (3pm) looking to arrest a dip in form.

Dorchester have lost five of their past six league games, slipping 11 points off the play-off spots.

Speaking to Echosport, Wood insisted Dorchester will fight until the last ball is kicked.

“You never say never,” he said. “We’re more than capable with the quality we’ve got to go on a run.

“But, so are all the teams above us. It’s going to be difficult and there are some real big hitters within that top five.

“We’re absolutely adamant that there’s no way we’re going to let this season fizzle out.

“We want to finish this season as high as we can and we’ll do everything to try and achieve that, but you’re up against quality sides that want exactly the same thing.

“All we can do is try and win matches and we’re fully focused on doing that.”

On the strides made this season, he added: “We had an extended pre-season, played a lot of fixtures because historically Dorchester have always struggled at the start of season.

“We knew it was a complete rebuild and had to get those players playing together.

“There was a real process about what we wanted to do and we’ve ticked so many boxes with the home form, our start, the position we’ve got ourselves in.”

Since Dorchester drew 2-2 at Gosport on October, Boro have brought in Molesley and a selection of new players to help steer them away from the drop zone.

Boro are still in a precarious position of 17th, with 19th and below facing relegation.

Wood said: “They’ve got an excellent manager in with a fantastic pedigree, they’ve got some good players and they’ve added to that.

“We’ll do our homework, go through certain things we want to put in place, but it will be a very difficult game.”

Ferdinand Okoh (hip) and Tiago Sa (knee) will be assessed, while Matty Neale serves the final match of a three-game suspension.

Kieran Douglas begins a two-match suspension for picking up ten bookings.
