DORCHESTER Town first-team coach felt the Magpies were unfortunate to come away with just a point from a lively 2-2 draw with Gosport Borough.

In a match that bore many similarities to the Magpies’ 2-2 draw at Gosport in October, Glenn Howes’ men claimed a 2-0 lead.

Charlie Gunson’s direct free-kick and Shaq Gwengwe’s close-range second, given despite big suspicions of a foul in the build-up, gave the Magpies breathing space.

That was until the introduction of Boro sub Billie Busari, who nudged home for 2-1 and then set up Dan Wooden’s equaliser three minutes later.

Dorchester felt they were deprived of an indirect free-kick for a passback and also a penalty when Gwengwe appeared to be barged over in the box.

Speaking to Echosport, Churchill said: “It was almost a replica of the away game. We were 2-0 up at Gosport and they pegged us back in the last minute.

“Disappointing not to come away with three points after a good performance. We’ve played really well at home and they’re fighting for every point they can get.

“We’ve done a lot of things right. People have got to remember the teams we’ve played in the last run of games have been top-four, top-five material.

“It’s really difficult to play against teams of that power but we were more back to our normal selves, back on our home ground, own surface and we moved the ball about really well.”

Churchill also conceded Dorchester were fortunate to see Gwengwe’s goal stand.

“Yeah, if I’m perfectly honest it was a foul and they should’ve had a free-kick,” he said.

“The only consistent thing from the officials was their inconsistency. It was very difficult for us to know what was going to be given a foul and what wasn’t.”

He added: “You look at the last 15 minutes and there’s a backpass to the keeper which he’s picked up, which could’ve been given.

“There’s a cast-iron penalty on Shaq, who’s pushed in the back. You just think they’ve turned a blind eye to those decisions when they had a big decision to make.

“I know it’s difficult out there but there were some easy decisions that could’ve gone our way.”

Dorchester return to action on Saturday at play-off chasing Bracknell Town (3pm).
