DORCHESTER Town boss Glenn Howes has instructed the Magpies to “make the most” of their final eight matches of the season.

Dorchester have experienced a drop-off in results in 2023, falling to eight defeats in ten Pitching In Southern League Premier South matches.

With a top-ten position their aim, Dorchester also have the dangling carrot of a best league finish since 2012/13, when the Magpies claimed eighth in the 2012/13 National League South season.

While Dorchester currently occupy 12th, Howes’ men can gain ground on the top ten when they visit Hayes & Yeading United tomorrow (3pm).

Hayes begin the weekend in eighth spot and, with both teams fostering an attractive style of play, Howes urged his young side to embrace the encounter in Middlesex.

He told Dorchester’s media team: “There’s still a number of fixtures to play for.

“Hayes is a lovely pitch, facility and surrounding. The team play really good football, so again it’s a great opportunity for this young team to learn.

“We’ve mentioned a couple of areas where we’re going to look to focus and improve on in preparation.

“It’s a huge positive. Before you know it, the last six weeks of the season will be over and we’ll be itching to get back on the grass.

“We have to make the most of these games that are left.”

Dorchester defender Harvey-Joe Bertrand is in contention after illness kept him out of the 2-0 defeat by Beaconsfield on Tuesday, while midfielder Ferdinand Okoh (hip) is also doubtful.
