NATHAN Carlyle has confirmed his exit from Weymouth following a 14-month stay at the Terras.

Centre-half Carlyle, 22, initially joined on loan from Sky Bet Championship side QPR and was one of previous boss David Oldfield’s most successful signings.

Although he could not help them stay up in the Vanarama National League, he signed a one-year deal and went on to play a key role in Weymouth escaping successive relegations.

He leaves the Bob Lucas Stadium having chalked up 50 games in the 2022/23 season, adding to the seven he made while on loan.

In a social media post, Carlyle said: “Just wanted to come on here to announce my time at Weymouth has come to an end.

“Thank you for making me part of your family and supporting me and the team through a tough season.

“The lessons I have learnt will stay with me for the rest of my career and I have no doubt the club will now kick on and get back to where it’s meant to be under the gaffer and his staff.

“I will always be a big fan of the club and respect the messages I have received since the end of the season. UTT.”

Carlyle is the second player in two days to leave Weymouth after the exit of Cameron Murray.

Weymouth currently have midfielders Tom Bearwish and Max Hemmings signed for the 2023/24 season.

Echosport understands boss Bobby Wilkinson is close to confirming several new signings.
