DORCHESTER Town owe their supporters a “performance” and “result”, boss Glenn Howes admits.

The Magpies are currently winless after four games of the Pitching In Southern League Premier South season.

They have dropped seven points from winning positions against Merthyr, Harrow and Walton & Hersham but face a hugely difficult Bank Holiday weekend.

Tomorrow, they host Chesham United at the Avenue Stadium (3pm) before travelling east to visit Poole Town on Monday.

A minority of Dorchester fans have been disgruntled by the poor start and Howes is determined to turn fortunes around for the Magpies.

He told Echosport: “It’s nice to have a home fixture back on our 3G, and we clearly owe our supporters not just a performance but a result.

“It would be nice to address certain items and hopefully give a good account of ourselves.

“This league is even stronger this year, whoever you play you underestimate anybody at your peril.

“Chesham, they don’t come much better than them. They’ve had a fantastic couple of results against Hungerford and Hayes & Yeading.

“We have to show a huge amount of personality and character. We have to defend as a team, that starts from number nine to our goalkeeper.

“There’s got to be a real togetherness, collective and collaborative approach.”

Dorchester have conceded the second-most goals (15) in the league after four games.

Expanding on that statistic, Howes said: “You have to address the number of goals we concede.

“The (numbers) don’t lie. We’re trying as hard as we can to address the number of goals we’ve conceded.

“Hopefully with the work we’ve put in this week we can see that come to fruition on Saturday.”

Asked if the players are confident they can turn the situation around, Howes replied: “I was really pleasantly surprised by the spirits in the camp at training.

“It’s great to see they’re equally as determined as the management team and club to put things right and turn this form around.”

Dorchester have doubts over defender Callum Buckley (knee) and striker Olaf Koszela (hamstring)but Lewis Toms is out.

Leighton Thomas misses both games this weekend through suspension, while Ollie Haste (hamstring) is doubtful despite intensive treatment with parent club Yeovil Town.

Howes said: “Callum is on the cusp of returning, whether this weekend comes too soon we’re not sure yet.

“Olaf is in a similar situation, he’s back to doing some weight-bearing but he has tightness in the glute and hamstring region.

“Leighton will be back after Poole and Ollie has a tight hamstring. He’s in good care with Yeovil and having treatment daily.

“We’re hopeful Ollie might play this weekend but we’ll be guided by Yeovil in terms of his condition.”
