BOBBY Wilkinson highlighted as “first-class” Weymouth’s 3-1 win at Dover Athletic in the Vanarama National League South.

The Terras were 2-0 up and a man to the good at half-time when debutant Ezio Touray, a late introduction to the starting line-up following Dan Roberts’ injury, netted a brace.

His first goal was a well-taken volley and the second more fortuitous as he charged down ex-Weymouth keeper Billy Terrell.

Johl Powell saw two yellows for soft fouls but Weymouth skipper Tom Bearwish also took an early shower, his second booking in the 52nd minute earned for time-wasting at a throw-in.

But Joel Rollinson’s fabulous solo goal put the Terras 3-0 up and even Roman Charles-Cook’s late consolation could not dampen their spirits on a sweltering afternoon at the Crabble Stadium.

Speaking after Weymouth’s third straight win at the Crabble, Wilkinson told Echosport: “Man for man we were brilliant, what a great team performance.

“I’m so proud of every one of my players this week. We carried on from Tuesday, we were so disappointed with the late penalty, but you dust yourselves down and go again.

“We turned up in very tricky conditions. It was so hot out there but we didn’t allow it to affect us. We spoke about it in great depth.

“Mentally, we had to be strong, we played some brilliant football and scored some brilliant goals.

“One was a bit of luck but it’s how (Touray) got there and pressed which was so important for me.”

Weymouth have often not had the rub of the green this season but Wilkinson was pleased to see the tables turn for his side after four consecutive losses.

He said: “It’s the first bit of luck we’ve had but if you work hard you get rewarded. That’s why I’m a firm believer.

“We’ve turned up with a little bit of pressure but, like I’ve told the boys, you enjoy being pressured because it’s a privilege.

“We didn’t want to lose another game. We’ve been playing really well at times and not well at times. It’s about getting consistent.

“On and off the pitch, everyone was first-class.”

Wilkinson later spotlighted the display of Touray, the former Watford and Basingstoke winger who performed so impressively.

“I’ve loved this kid for a while, I’ve been keeping an eye on him," he said. "As soon as I found out he got released by Watford, we brought him in a week ago.

“We got him fit and he signed for us and he’s straight into the squad. We need a finisher.

“Even though the boys are playing really well, this boy knows where the back of the net is.

“He’s another part of the jigsaw. I have to say, there’s been a couple of really good signings this week to make us stronger in depth.

“It’s been an up and down season but, for me, five points off the play-offs, I’ll take that at this stage.”

Weymouth now turn their attentions to the FA Cup second qualifying round clash at Highworth Town on Saturday (3pm).
