DORCHESTER Town are “more than capable” of securing a good result at league leaders Gosport Borough tonight (7.45pm), new boss Tom Killick insists.

Gosport have arguably been the surprise package of the Pitching In Southern League Premier South season, rising to the summit with eight wins from ten games.

Boro also have the best defensive record in the league, conceding only six goals, while Dorchester occupy 17th.

However, the Magpies form part of an extremely congested mid-table and could rise numerous positions by inflicting what would be Gosport’s second league loss of the season.

Killick told Echosport: “This league is very competitive from top to bottom, as everyone knows.

“Gosport have had a great start to the season and they’re very much a form team. They’re going to be full of confidence.

“These are the games we really have to show we can compete in.

“I feel based on Saturday if we can really enhance our performance in certain aspects we’re more than capable of getting a positive result.

“We need to have the mentality that we’re equipped to beat these more experienced sides and that there’s an expectation upon us to get these results.

“We can’t deflect away from the fact there’s an expectation that we’re capable of getting these results. I firmly believe that that’s the case.”

Killick only has eyes for a positive result, adding: “If after the game we end up with a point, we’re not going to be bitterly disappointed.

“But our mindset is to try and win the game. I think with the group we’ve got, that’s really the sort of mentality they have, to be positive and proactive.

“That’s not going to change. We’re going to look to win the game. It’s wins that are going to push us up the table, so our focus is definitely to try and win.”

Elsewhere, centre-back Will Spetch was sent off in Saturday’s 3-1 FA Trophy defeat at Merthyr having been deemed to have committed a foul as last man.

Killick confirmed the Magpies will not be appealing the decision, explaining: “We won’t be appealing on the basis that we thought it was a harsh decision and possibly incorrect, but to be successful you have to prove it’s a clear and obvious error.

“That’s the really high bar. In other words, unless the FA think it’s pretty ridiculous, they won’t overturn it.

“When that is a criteria for a successful appeal, you don’t get many instances where we can do it.

“We feel that on balance it was incorrect but not to the extent where we’re going to have a successful appeal.”

Dorchester are still waiting on striker Olaf Koszela after the completion of his concussion protocols, the former Torquay forward not yet 100 per cent.

However, Killick will have Jack Dickson available following his dismissal at Plymouth Parkway.

Killick said: “We think there’s a chance (Koszela) might be available but, if not, we would very much expect he would be available for Hendon.

“We’ve got Jack back after his suspension, so that’s a boost as well.”

Spetch will be available for the trip to Gosport before his suspension kicks in against Hendon, with Dorchester expecting a bye weekend due to Bracknell’s progress in the FA Cup.

The Magpies are understood to have contacted Sholing about bringing forward ten days their midweek match, without success.

Killick added: “Frustratingly for us, it looks like another Saturday without a fixture, which is just unfortunate on all aspects.

“There’s the financial element and from the players’ and my point of view, it’s been a stop-start situation. We haven’t even got the benefit of a game next midweek.

“It means the next game is Hendon away on the 21st.”
