WEYMOUTH manager Bobby Wilkinson took no consolation from the Terras’ 2-1 defeat at Tonbridge Angels, despite a dominant second half.

After former Weymouth striker Jordan Greenidge put Tonbridge in front, Weymouth controlled the game as Tom Bearwish rounded off a brilliant team move for 1-1 before the break.

Weymouth had numerous chances amid a sea of possession in the second half but were ultimately punished for failing to cash in when Kodi Lyons-Foster headed home following a corner.

The defeat ended Weymouth’s four-game unbeaten streak in the National League South and kept them in 20th place.

And Wilkinson admitted to conflicting emotions at the full-time whistle.

He told Echosport: “It’s the best we’ve played all season. It was constant attack in the second half, they played very defensively and let us have the ball a lot more.

“We got caught on the sucker punch in the first half and then we gave away a sloppy corner, then we could’ve cleared our lines and we didn’t. They scored off the second corner.

“They only got in our box twice in the second half. The difference in both teams is that they’ve managed it right and we didn’t.

“We were really good but what can I say? We scored one of the best goals of the season with the team movement and Bear puts in a fantastic goal to make it 1-1. Then there’s only one team in it.

“But, I’ve lost the game so I’m really, really frustrated.”

He added: “We had a hell of a lot of possession and about 10 chances to their two in the second half.

“But, it doesn’t matter, it’s just what’s at the end of it. They got the three points. We’ll play a lot worse this year and win games.

“We’ve played a lot worse and got points. We were very good but we didn’t come away with the win. Whatever I say doesn’t make me feel any better.”

Weymouth now turn their attentions to the thrice rearranged Dorset Senior Cup tie at home to Wimborne Town tomorrow (7.45pm).
