WEYMOUTH 137 (7pts) lost to PARLEY II 206-9 (21pts) by 69 runs

WEYMOUTH sank to a 69-run loss at Redlands as Parley Seconds completed the double over the Seasiders in County Division Two.

On a baking hot day, it came as no surprise when Parley batted first after winning the toss.

However, Lloyd Beals (3-35) bowled a scintillating first over, taking two wickets to put the visitors on the back foot.

Parley dug in and recovered through Jonathan Rake (23) and Freddie Pryce (32) before the latter was run out by Shafeek Urumancheri and Rake was bowled by Jackson Jose (1-28).

Weymouth then reduced Parley to 110-7 but again the visitors fought back as James Miller (38) and Oliver Sinha (45) boosted the away side to 206-9 from 45 overs.

Weymouth got off to a good start with Tommy England firing eight boundaries, but Sinha (2-20) bowled Beals (5) and Jack Sapsworth (2).

Once England (41) was stumped by Rake off Andy Symes (4-26), their defeat was swiftly confirmed with Paul Payne (16), Harry Mitchell (14no) and Alex Lark (12) the only players to reach double figures.

And the Seasiders were spared a heavier defeat by the 41 extras bowled by a generous Parley attack.

Speaking to Echosport, home skipper Harry Mitchell said: “Winning the toss was a big one because it was hot.

“Lloyd’s first over, two wickets, dream start. For 35 overs it was the best we’ve been in the field all season, took our catches, good energy – the boys are up for it.

“For them to get 206 it was a poor finish but it was our game to lose.

“Tommy played a really good innings, it was a shame he didn’t kick on. As soon as we lost the first it was same old. As soon as the going gets tough, we crumble, we fold.”

Weymouth, like many other clubs at this stage of the season, are struggling with availability.

Their title-chasing seconds were forced to field only eight players in their loss at Bournemouth Fifths, leading Mitchell to highlight the problem.

“It’s embarrassing,” he said. “We had two drop out on Saturday morning. Andy Jarvis has done an exceptional job this year.

“I can’t praise him highly enough, so to let him down like that it’s not on. It’s the first game they lost this season. If they had 11 there they would’ve won.”
