DORSET 357-9d (11pts) drew with CHESHIRE 385-8 & 183-4 (12pts)

RAIN hampered any chance of a winning result as Dorset suffered relegation following a draw with Cheshire at Wimborne in the NCCA Championship.

The draw means Dorset finish bottom of Western Division One after the final game of the summer.

Bath star Sam Young (125) made a gorgeous maiden Championship century on day two and received good support from David Scott (49) as Dorset closed on 211-3, some 174 runs behind Cheshire.

More rain overnight delayed the resumption but when play did begin Dorset went on the attack as Young cracked a magnificent 152 from 193 balls.

His effort was nearly matched by an equally stunning 131 off 125 balls from Scott, who was last man to fall as Dorset declared on 357-9.

At this stage, Dorset needed a Cheshire collapse to force a result and although Scott nabbed 3-44, the visitors safely reached 185-4 before the captains agreed on a draw.

Dorset's form in red ball cricket was at odds with their white-ball record, having reached the semi-finals of both the NCCA T20 and NCCA Trophy competitions this summer.
