THESE days, we all love a bargain don’t we? Well you have to. For example, the other day I bought a new coat.

It wasn’t my size, it looked dreadful but it had 70 per cent off so I couldn’t resist.

But when it comes to live music you’d be hard pressed to beat tonight’s Hourglass Promotions offering at Finn’s in Weymouth where five brilliant bands battle it out to make your ears bleed and admission is just £1.

Yes, that’s right just one of your English pounds which works out at, for the mathematically challenged of you, at 20p a pop. Thank you, Stephen Hawking.

Blimey, some of the biggest supermarket chains in the country can’t knock packs of burgers out for that.

So who are the runners and riders tonight at Finn’s, I hear you ask from the back of the stable?

Well, under starter’s orders are metal moshers Kinasis who went down a storm last year when they supported Malefice.

The Bridgwater-based five-piece noisemongerers will be joined by electro-metal cult heroes Saint (the Sinner) who supported Funeral For A Friend at the Pavilion gig last August.

Also playing are local nu-metal threesome Falling for Vanity, weirdos Parasythe who list their hometown as The Nest of Leviathan, which is just off the A37, and local metal merchants End Of Daze.

There: All that for a quid so if, like me, you can’t pronounce the letter F or the letter T, you can’t say fairer that that.

Doors opens at Finn’s tonight at 7pm, so wrap up warm and get there early, okay.

Right, we all know how kind-hearted our local musicians are.

Almost to a man or woman, they will drop everything (matron!) and do what they can to help a worthy cause, whether it’s a 30-minute slot at a fundraising multi-band gig, the lending of equipment or even just driving the van, we’ve all done our bit.

But sometimes, people take things a bit too for.

For example, Dorchester’s dynamic duo Jack Daniels and Benny Wain whom many of you would have seen in action recently as their Two Fat Santas tour played virtually every pub in the region in December.

Despite listing their three pet hates as walking, climbing and camping, they will be scaling Mount Kilimanjaro next January to raise money for the Help A Friend Help A Friend charity.

HAFHAF, as it’s known, was set up following the sad death of musician Stevie Charles and continues to raise money to help those suffering from cancer get to their treatment and any additional costs that may incur.

If you want to sponsor Jack and Benny, or fancy joining them (You mad fool!) go to hafhaf.co.uk for all the details.

Right, time for lunch. Do I want anything on my burger? Yes, how about a fiver each way?

Till next time...
