MULLET-Face Malcolm, Stickleback Simon, Cod-chops Colin, Tin of Tuna Trevor?

Sorry, but no. Us Brits just can’t cut it when it comes to blues names.

But how about Catfish Keith?

He’s very much the real deal, a supreme bottleneck guitarist and delta blues howler and stomper out of the east side of Chicago and, at just 30 years of age, a veritable veteran who has toured the USA, UK and Europe and headlined major music festivals appearing with such legends as John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Robert Cray, Taj Mahal, Leo Kottke and many, many others.

Not only that, as you can see from the picture, he has ENORMOUS fingers.

Anyways, Keith is bringing his dynamic one-man show to Dorchester Arts Centre tomorrow, Saturday, November 16, as part of the DA Blues sessions.

Tickets are £13 from the box office on 01305 266926 – but hurry, these events sell-out pretty sharpish.

Now then, there are two events this weekend which are raising money for hugely worthwhile causes.

First up, tonight, Friday November 15, there’s a massive band/dj bash at the Weymouth Arms and Malibu pub and club in Weymouth to raise money for the family of Aidan Williams-Martin, the hugely popular 24-year-old Portlander who died in a car crash last month.

Bands playing include Fissure of Riddles, End of Daze, As Flames Rise, Without Consent and the fabulously-named The Urinal.

As you can probably imagine by the bands’ names, metal and thrash is the order of day so get down there tonight and mosh yourself mental in memory of top bloke who will be sorely missed.

It’s only £3 on the door and all proceeds go to Aidan’s family.

And on Sunday, November 17, the Golden Lion in Weymouth is hosting a 12-hour live music extravaganza to raise money for Children In Need.

It all kicks off at midday and bands so far on the bill include Dakota, Red Crow, Mama Feelgood, Flybone Yellow, Neon Yellow with many more likely to put in appearance.

Moving on, High West Street is turning into Weymouth’s Tin Pan Alley, what with regular live music at The Boot and The Belvedere.

And there are two new open mic nights starting this week with Mike and Chris from The Decades hosting their Open Amp night at the Belvedere on Wednesdays, from 7.30pm and Bob and Jon doing their thing at the Old Town Hall on the third Monday of each month, again from 8pm.

So if you fancy a play or just a singsong, that’s your Mondays and Wednesdays sorted.

And finally, those lovely people at Air FM 107.2 have only asked me back to host another Hijacked show, next Wednesday, November 20 from 8-10pm.

I’ll be playing stacks of Northern Soul, some vintage disco and funk and some feeeeeelthy jazz and I’ll also have some rather special guests doing some choones live in the studio. Let joy be unconfined!

So tune in and give your lugholes a treat, OK? ’Til next time...
