THERE’s a remarkable double of events coming up at Dorchester Arts Centre next week.

On Friday, June 13, Mike McGear McCartney will be taking you through his family album, growing up in Liverpool after the war, changing his name from Ringo because of Beatlemania, his career subverting children’s television during the 1970s with The Scaffold and his life travelling the world as a photographer.

It promises to be a fascinating evening with some outrageous stories and great songs with the slight possibility of a mention of his lesser known brother, some bloke called James Paul McCartney, whoever he is.

Tickets are £16.50 from the arts centre box office on 01305 266926.

And the following evening, Saturday June 14, marks the return of Dale Storr, one of the UK’s leading exponents of New Orleans-style piano. Inspired by such luminaries as Dr John and James Booker, Dale has been nominated as best UK piano player five years in a row by the British Blues Awards.

Dale would normally appear with wife Kim, a top sax player from Weymouth who played locally with such bands as Speed Handbag and Loup Garou a decade or so ago, but duties as new mum to baby Ruby take priority.

Dale, who will no doubt be performing tracks from his latest album New Orleans Piano, recorded live at the Nottingham Theatre Royal, will be joined instead by trumpeter James Atashroo.

His last appearance at the DA Blues sessions was back in 2012 and that was a sell-out so you need to get your finger out.

Tickets are £13 from the box office on the above number.
