A CONCERT featuring music both ancient and modern, with hints of Christmas and Thomas Hardy will take place at Winterborne Kingston on Saturday, December 13.

Stevie Wishart is headlining Strings, Wheel and Fingers at St Nicholas’ Church, Winterborne Kingston.

It will feature some songs, maybe some fiddle playing, but mostly hurdy-gurdy.

Stevie is a composer, musician, improviser and director of the medieval music group Sinfonye.

She is among the leading exponents of the hurdy-gurdy in this country, regularly heard on BBC Radio 3, and has performed at London’s Wigmore Hall, the BBC Proms, the Purcell Room, and the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

She recently gave the first ever hurdy-gurdy performance at the Albert Hall.

More than that, Stevie is currently a visiting music fellow at the University of Cambridge with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Centre for Musical Performance as Creative Practice (CMPCP).
