WELL, I don’t know about you, but after a long, hard week at work, there’s nothing more I look forward to than a good old skank on a Saturday night.

And no matter if you like to skank on your own, or maybe with a significant other, or perhaps, for the more adventurous of you, with a bunch of fellow skankers, you’re in luck tomorrow night.

Yes, the mighty, mighty Dub Pistols come this way again with a show at the Electric Palace in Bridport tomorrow night, Saturday, November 21.

Top man Barry Ashworth has been fronting this outfit of renegade hip-hop, jungle, techno, ska and reggae mosh-up maestros for nigh on 20 years now, which is some going.

No doubt they’ll be playing tracks from their latest LP The Return of The Pistoleros, which has been nominated Album of the Year in the 2015 Bass Music Awards.

The band are also up for Best Live Act and Lord Bazza himself is in the running for the Lifetime Achievement gong, which is just one off a knighthood, I understand.

And only last month they dropped the club banger of the year in Killa Sound, which apparently is how young people say they have a new single out.

So it transpires that jungle is still massif, particularly in the Congo, which is where they used to make Um Bongo.

So get your skanking pants on for tomorrow and, believe me, you’ll need them because they are a quite sensational live band. Tickets are £13 from seetickets.com or £15 on the door.

Moving on, and the good people at the Sunray Folk Club have lined up another evening of quality entertainment on Thursday, November 26.

It’s a double header featuring the amazing talents of Mick Ryan and Paul Downes.

Mick is well known on the circuit for traditional and original songs and his numerous folk musicals, including A Tolpuddle Man, A Day’s Work and The Navvy’s Wife. (Lovely woman, face like a busted shovel and smelled of Tarmac.) Paul is a guitarist of considerable nift and has worked with Pete Seegar, Phil Beer and Show of Hands. It’s a mere £8 on the door next Thursday at Broadmayne village hall.

Ok, that’s your lot for this week. If you want your band or event featured, just drop an email to me at gigs@dorsetecho.co.uk
