THE other morning, as I stood naked looking in the Mirror, I thought to myself: “It can only be a matter of time before I’m asked to leave WH Smiths.”

I also pondered how good it would be to have a world class harmonica maestro with a crack band of red-hot players doing a turn in a back-street pub in Weymouth.

Well, knock me down with a feather, clever Trevor, it’s only been and gone and happening tomorrow night, Saturday, January 16.

Belfast blues harp ace Billy Boy Miskimmin is bringing his crack Mercy Lounge band to The Star boozeria in downtown Weymouth for a night of rip-roarin’ rockin’ and ravin’ R&B.

Billy has had a quite amazing career so far after being head-hunted to join British blues legends Nine Below Zero back in 1995. He toured the world with them before being asked to join The Yardbirds, as you do.

Dates with rock’n’roll royalty ensued, playing with BB King and members of The Doors, and earning high praise from the likes of Jimmy Page and Alice Cooper.

As I recall Sinatra once telling me as we played golf, it’s not good form to name drop but even so..

Anyways, Billy’s Mercy Lounge band are not too shabby on the CV front either with guitarist Steve Payne having played with Dr John and BB King.

Fellow axeman Jay Sims joined the band in 2014 and has spent a lifetime touring the blues circuit in the States while ace of bass Lidia Cascarino has a list of credits longer than Ben Hur and Gandhi put together.

Over the years, she’s supported Status Quo, Robbie Williams, Robert Plant and many more.

And local drum legend Ady Milward needs no introduction, apart from a four count on the sticks.

Certainly promises to a jam packed and sweaty night tomorrow, so get there early ok?

Looking ahead, and the Sunray Folk Club are getting their 2016 off with an almighty bang with the return of singer-songwriter giant Boo Hewerdine.

Boo went down a storm on his previous visit to this popular club at their Broadmayne village hall home and he’ll be back on Thursday, January 28.

The list of who Boo’s worked with and written for is as long as Stretch Armstrong’s arm, but most notably with Eddi Reader on Patience of Angels.

Tickets for Boo’s date are £10 and details are available at sunrayfolkclub.co.uk
