IT CERTAINLY looks nice out this weekend, so if it’s okay with you, I’ll probably take mine out.

And what could be better, now that the sun has got his hat on, than a day devoted to the happy sound of Motown and soul?

Because that’s what you’ll be getting tomorrow, Saturday, May 7, at the Spice Ship in Weymouth as they host their Maytown Day (Gah, just saw what they did there…)

There’s an impressive line-up of acts, including Brighton’s Motown Supreme, Detroit Magic from, well, probably not Detroit, and Sing Baby Sing, the UK’s top tribute to the rather fabulous Stylistics.

I’ve Heard it Through the Grapevine that there only a few tickets at £15 left at the venue, so you Can’t not Hurry, Love, and Get Ready.

It’s easy as ABC or you could be spending the weekend in Seven Rooms of Gloom and you won’t be able to Blame it on the Boogie this time.

(Blimey, this stuff writes itself.) Moving on, the next time a woman comes up to me at a gig and asks: “Do you know my sex is on fire?”

I won’t say, as I usually tend to: “Have you tried putting some yoghurt on it, madam?”, before being slapped round the chops.

I’ll just point her in the direction of Kings O’Leon, the top KoL tribute who will be paying homage to the Followill brothers and their cousin at Finns in Weymouth tonight, Friday, May 6.

The Southampton-based foursome take material old and new from the KoL catalogue so, girls, it’s time to dig out your best clumpy boots, pull on your hairiest beard and tartan shirt.

It’s £5 on the door tonight, by the way.

And there’s a night of delightful harmonies and top playing in store tomorrow, Saturday May 7, when the Watkins and Swarbrick Band rock up with their eclectic sound to Burton Bradstock village hall.

Ken and Simon, for that is they, have been playing for so long now, it’s said their first gig was supporting Noah.

Ken’s a top banjo and uke whizz, while Simon is a world-class fiddle maestro.

They’ll be joined by the fragrant and lovely Lucy Watkins and Angela Heron-Watkins and, here’s the twist, there is no admission fee.

You just pay what you think it was worth when you leave! However, you must reserve a seat beforehand by calling 01305 837299.

And finally, Weymouth has been rated one of the best towns in the country for pubs and bars.

Well, we’ve all known that for years but one of the reasons must be the amazing standard and variety of live music in our boozers.

So it’s a big high five and woop woop woop to all the players, all the punters and all the landlords and ladies who help keep it live. Thank you!
