A SERIES of charity film screenings in Dorchester have raised more than £3,000 for a Dorset children’s hospice.

The Odeon cinema in Brewery Square hosted three consecutive sell-out charity screenings of the hit Disney film Frozen to raise funds for Julia’s House.

The screenings were supported by local children’s party planners Fairytale Parties, who brought the film’s stars Elsa and Anna to life and gave the audience the chance to meet them.

Further support came from Toys R Us and Boo’s toy shop, which both donated prizes for a raffle and staff from Lloyds Bank in the county town, who volunteered at the events.

General manager of the Dorchester Odeon Alan Escott said: “We have been overwhelmed by the attendance and generosity of our patrons to the charity screenings.

“More than 360 children and their families attended the three events, helping to raise more than £2,000 from ticket sales, raffles and donations.

“What’s more, as Lloyds Bank staff volunteered at two of the screenings, they have kindly agreed to apply for match funding through the Lloyds matched giving scheme, which will result in a grand total of £3,238.56 for a very worthy charity.”

Donna Sibley of Julia’s House said the charity was ‘extremely grateful’ to the Odeon for its support of the charity.

She said: “The response to our charity screenings of Frozen has been phenomenal and we are extremely grateful to everyone who has made it possible and supported us.

“The Julia’s House Dorchester Friends Group had great fun organising these events and we’ve raised a terrific amount whilst doing so. “The money raised will go a long way to helping the local families that we support.”
