Families from across Dorset made a special effort to create World Book Day costumes for their children to wear to school.
The celebration took place on Thursday and over the years the Dorset Echo has enjoyed sharing photos of young readers dressed up as their favourite book characters.

We asked to see pictures of your costumes and a selection of photos were published yesterday, Monday, March 11, in an eight-page supplement in the Echo.

Hundreds of children across the county took part in World Book Day 2024, showing off some carefully constructed costumes.
These varied from the flamboyant - like nattily dressed Willy Wonkas, right through to the downright absurd such as the spoon from another Roald Dahl favourite, George's Marvellous Medicine.
World Book Day is a charity with the aim to help change children’s lives by making reading together and reading for pleasure a habit for life.
The organisation says that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator for success in life - more than family circumstances, educational background, or income.

A spokesperson said earlier: "Sharing stories together for just 10 minutes a day will encourage a love of reading and it’s fun for everyone! You can read together anywhere and everywhere, from breakfast to bedtime! In the park, on the train, on the sofa, on a plane – reading and sharing stories can happen anywhere at any time."
Designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, World Book Day is marked in over 100 countries around the globe.

40 staff at THS dressed up as Where’s Wally for a treasure hunt around the school. There were staff hiding all around the school - science, MFL, English, PE, dance, drama, social sciences, EforE, Library. As well as this there is also a whole school display of films and TV which started life as a book. Our whole school competition this year is to create a #booktok video. £1 book tokens are also digitally available for students.
