Incredible Easter themed yarn bomb creations cover Weymouth

Knitters, crocheters and other skilled crafters have descended on the south harbourside, Hope Square, Radipole Lane and Wyke Regis to bring some joy for the holiday season.

On the south harbourside, some rather quirky bollard jumpers can be seen in the form of Wallace and Gromit which were created by the Knitoholics.

The group described this project as their ‘most ambitious to date,’ stating that ‘instead of making cute and cuddly baby animals for Easter, they have given it a twist by creating Wallace and Gromit characters.’

A spokesperson for the group said: “The idea came to us whilst chatting in our one of our group meetings, my granddaughter had just seen the new movie and was entertaining us with bits from the film.

“She did some sketches, and we spent a lot of time, trial and error designing the patterns to be able to knit the characters - I think it's been our most ambitious project to date.

“The characters include Wallace and Gromit, Wendoline from the wool shop, Shaun the sheep, and Frizzle and Mollie from Chicken Run Dawn of the Nugget, as well as the female decoy were-rabbit from Curse of the Were-Rabbit.”

The group were also approached by nearby business, the T Shop  who asked if we would make them two bollard jumpers for their new season and they were 'more than happy to help out and create a more traditional Easter and spring theme for them.'

The Knitoholics would also like to ‘thank people for all of their lovely comments and ongoing support.’

Another group of well-known yarn-bombers are the Knit-wits who have been targeting Hope Square since 2021.

They have created some fabulous bollard jumpers depicting colourful easter eggs as well as a beautiful spring themed post box topper which sees a mother goose sat on top surrounded by all of her unhatched goslings.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We use knitting and crochet to create eye catching, fun creations, working as a group made up of individuals, local groups, and businesses.

“Our inspiration comes from seasonal celebrations and events – even when we are working on a project we are thinking about ideas for future yarn bombing events

“We try and be as environmentally friendly as possible by reusing wool from previous projects as well as donated yarn. But we are also very grateful to have been supported financially by Londis Harbour Stores, and We are Weymouth.  

“Since we started our ideas and ambitions have grown, and we would welcome anyone who would like to get involved with what we do into the group.

“We hope everyone enjoys our egg-stra special Easter toppers.”

Another brilliant Easter-themed post box topper can be spotted along Radipole Lane near to Creech Way where an array of Easter animals including a bunny, chick and chicken sit on top, whilst a crocheted sheep dangles from the side.
