BOBBY Wilkinson has offered an update on the progress of injured trio Calvin Brooks, Josh McQuoid and Max Hemmings.

Three of Weymouth’s key players this term have all been impacted by serious ailments and are all set to be out until pre-season.

Brooks injured his knee in the 1-0 victory at Dartford, the same joint he seriously hurt during his spell at Salisbury in 2022.

After much consideration regarding the success rate of repairing his meniscus, he has decided to undergo surgery.

Meanwhile, Josh McQuoid has returned to running work after treatment for a sarcoma in his leg.

Fellow central midfield option Max Hemmings is also back in the gym after lasting just 16 minutes of the season, coming off injured with a serious knee problem in the 2-1 loss to St Albans on the opening day.

Assessing all three players, Wilkinson began with Brooks.

“He’s definitely having an operation,” Wilkinson said.

“He’s out for the season, which is heartbreaking. We wish him all the best.

“I’ve been in constant dialogue with him but he’ll be in for pre-season if he has (the surgery) in the next week or two, which looks like it’s going to happen.

“Josh is back running, which is brilliant, and Max is back in the gym running as well.

“Both of them will be available for pre-season. So, three of my key players will be back on the park for pre-season.

“Those three players make a massive difference. That then is a play-off squad if you keep the ones around you.”

Wilkinson also raised the possibility of McQuoid returning to the squad in an informal coaching capacity before the end of the season.

He added: “I’m still trying to show positiveness with the boys that are coming back.

“You just want to remind people: ‘Look what’s in the building but can’t play’.

“When they’re back fighting, there they are. My main priority is to look after the boys that haven’t been playing.

“Josh said he’s going to come up and do a couple of training sessions before the season ends.

“That will give everyone a little boost and it will be good to see him back on the training park as well.

“I look forward to working with these boys again in pre-season and building for next year.”

On the pitch, Weymouth visit Aveley tomorrow (3pm).
