TWITTER turned eight years old last week, and to celebrate, we're searched through our mentions archive throughout the last year to bring you our top 10 favourite tweets to the Dorset Echo newsroom.
Number one
WHO could forget the Red Arrows as they wowed us at Weymouth Carnival last year? This tweet was just one of many spectacular pictures by onlookers we were sent in the newsroom.
And, as the red arrows have been confirmed for the carnival again this year, can you take a spectacular shot to rival this one?
Number two
DURING the bad weather that hit Dorset in October 2013, it’s only natural to feel a little miserable when your umbrella and waterproof coat become your two new best friends.
So, not surprisingly, this tweet from the Abbotsbury Swannery reminding us of last year’s cygnets in our summer snaps competition put a smile on our faces.
Number three
CONDOR ferries made its long awaited return to Weymouth in July last year, at the time marking seventeen months after the ferry operator switched its cross-Channel sailings to Poole due to a crumbling ferry berth.
Scores of residents and holidaymakers were there to welcome Condor back – and as you can see from this tweet, Condor Vitesse was pleased to see us too!
Number four
OLMYPIAN Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson died in an accident on May 9 while training to compete in the Americas Cup off San Francisco.
He is remembered by many here at the Dorset Echo and back in July we heard about The Bart Project - an online archive of pictures and stories thought up by his friends to keep the sailor’s memory alive for his two sons.
Number five
MADE in Chelsea star Francis Boulle is just one of many celebrities to visit Dorset.
Back in July the celebrity guest came to the county for an open day at Waterston Manor to show his support for the fight against a proposed wind farm near Tolpuddle.
Number six
HERE in Dorset we get our fair share of animals causing chaos.
This tweet from councillor Rachel Rogers reminded us of a swan that caused traffic chaos after it ventured onto the A35 close to Puddletown.
Number seven
IN August last year a Weymouth mum and daughter had a shock when they discovered a snake in their garden.
Bridie and Ann Denniss, of Sunnyside Road, were having a cup of tea when they saw something on the garden wall.

Number eight
FIREWORKS are a common favourite for most, but the Weymouth fireworks during the summer always prove a hit for holidaymakers and residents.
This spectacular shot was sent in to us by Laura Day.
Number nine
HIGHLIGHTING the number of hoax calls to the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service prompted the service to get in touch and thank the newsroom via Twitter.
In July 2013 we revealed that over the last five years Dorset Fire and Rescue Service has been plagued by more than 700 hoax callers and that lives are at risk because of this.

Number ten
LAMBING season has sprung at Kingston Maurward Animal Park, and the new arrivals at the popular attraction have signalled the first sign of spring.
